Hand Rejuvenation

Hand Rejuvenation

Everyone will experience the effects of ageing on their hands at some point in their life. As a person ages the skin texture of their hands will change and blemishes can appear.  To combat the effects of ageing on the hands there are a range of treatments available such as chemical peels and lasers that can help rejuvenate them.

Causes

Hands suffer from exposure to sunlight, weather, toxins and the impact of some professions. This eventually takes a toll causing a loss of elasticity. Loss of fat in the hands and wasting of muscles over the years can produce a bony appearance with the thinning of fingers, and the prominence of knuckles, veins and tendons. As our hands are so visible any changes can be cause for concern for many.

Symptoms

The most obvious symptoms of skin deterioration are a loss of plumpness around the bones of the fingers and hands and the appearance of age spots. Whilst such changes may not cause any pain, they can impact on confidence.

Diagnosis

Recognising skin deterioration is easy but it is import to consult a qualified and experienced physician to confirm the cause and discuss treatment options. Skillful consultants at the hospital can reverse the signs of aging and sun damage by restoring lost volume to promote a youthful appearance.

Treatment

A range of treatments, completed as an outpatient, are now available that provide a graphic before and after transformation.

  • Chemical peels- This minimally invasive technique and is quick and easy to administer. A carefully balanced formula is applied to the skin to remove the top layer of affected skin to reveal smoother layers of healthier skin. It is effective at removing spots and discolourations while making the skin tissue to appear less transparent.
  • Laser skin resurfacing- Involves the application of short bursts of laser light to disrupt and dissolve the molecular bonds of damaged skin to promote a more uniform skin appearance. It is a trusted method of removing wrinkles, scars and blemishes.
  • Microdermabrasion- is a superficial skin polishing procedure that ‘sands’ off the first layer of skin with tiny crystals.
  • Injectable fillers- filler material is massaged across the back of the hand to give a youthful, even look with more volume. The procedure can be completed within 30 minutes and the results are immediately noticeable.
  • A clear gel of natural hyaluronic acid- This can be injected into the dermis to provide moisture and renewed volume by energising skin cell activity and increasing production of elastin and collagen to restore younger looking contours to the hand.
  • Fat transfer- A graft of fat taken safely from the stomach or thighs and injected into the hand performed as a day procedure under local anaesthetic. It will provide volume in the hands for much longer than fillers that will need repeat consultations.
  • Sclerotherapy- A surgical procedure where veins that are too prominent to be covered by fillers are hidden.
